About The
U.S. FootGolf Open

In 2012 the first FootGolf tournament in the United States was held at Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells. With that inaugural tournament players around the country started to kick a soccer ball on a golf course. For two year the AFGL traveled the country doing promotional tournaments.

By 2014 the AFGL was ready to kick it up a notch and started the U.S. FootGolf Pro-Am. This next series of tournaments were designed to bring the level of play here in the United States to the same level as we were seeing from more sport developed countries around the world. We knew we had to entice the top players to come to the U.S. and have our players learn the game from the the best competitors in FootGolf.

The AFGL made the bold choice to offer the first cash purse in the history of the game. Over the next 3 years players from around the world would come to the United States to compete for cash purses up to $25K per tournament. It was an expensive gamble for a new sports and a new sport organization but one that paid off when Team USA became the first world champions in the history of the sport, winning the 2016 World Cup in Argentina. Team USA also won the bonze medal in Morocco 2018.  The AFGL players were now at the competitive level of the best players around the world.

As the sport continued to grow and the players developed their skills the competitive field was tightening and the idea of professional and amateur players in a high level tournament was no longer logical. It was time for the AFGL to change the Pro-Am to the U.S. FootGolf Open.

Today the "The U.S. Open" can be counted on to host a full field of top players from around the world, competition for cash purses and playing three rounds on some of the top golf courses in the world.
