Hurricane Hilary was a large, potent Category 4 hurricane in August 2023 which brought torrential rainfall and gusty winds to the Pacific Coast of Mexico and the Southwestern United States, including the Greater Palm Springs Area, resulting in widespread flooding and numerous mudslides affecting about 26 million people across four states of Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah. The entire region was placed under a high risk threat for flash flooding.
Hilary broke records in four U.S. states for wettest tropical cyclone and its remnants, seriously affected the region, including the golf courses in the Coachella Valley where Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort and The Lights at Indio Municipal Golf Course, the two venues of The Nationals 2023, were located.
The multi-day, multi-category event was scheduled and played the same week. You have to watch the video to see the incredible recovery work made by course management and especially by the maintenance team at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort and by The Lights at Indio's General manager and his boys. The Nationals 2023 was played basically like hurricane Hillary didn’t existed and the reality is that just a few days before the tournament the entire area was a devastation!
